Julius Mkhwanazi admits to accepting money from Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala
Suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Deputy (EMPD) Chief, Julius Mkhwanazi admitted before the ad hoc committee that he accepted money from controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, while insisting it did not buy influence or unlawful favours.
He said he took money from Matlala without doing proper due diligence .
“I regret it, it was wrong,” added Mkhwanazi
Mkhwanazi discredited the reports that he fitted blue lights blue to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala
“I was called a blue light blesser and I said can you show me those blue lights, I never saw those blue lights. It was character assassination to deal with me, and it succeeded – it went everywhere.”
Mkhwanazi’s appearance is expected to be followed by forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan next week, with Brown Mogotsi expected to take the stand in early February.
The ad hoc committee is expected to continue hearings on Tuesday, 27 January 2026M
