Kaizer Chiefs launch women’s team in historic move

Kaizer Chiefs have officially launched their women’s team, the Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, on March 31, 2026. This historic milestone marks a significant step for both Kaizer Chiefs and South African women’s football.

The team will be coached by Unathi Mbena and will play its home matches at the Kaizer Chiefs Village and KwaThema Stadium in Springs. The squad consists of 24 players, including former Banyana Banyana midfielder Mamello Makhabane and junior internationals Zanele Kunyamane and Katlego Mohale.

The launch comes as a result of a long-term partnership with Springs Home Sweepers and the support of Brima Logistics. This initiative aims to create real pathways for women in football and reflects the club’s commitment to growing the women’s game in South Africa.

Kaizer Chiefs’ move into women’s football is expected to inspire a new generation of female players and strengthen the domestic football landscape, building on the growing momentum of women’s football across the country.
