KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma says just over 3,000 trained officers have been deployed across the province to strengthen safety measures ahead of the busy Easter holiday period.
The officers will be stationed at police stations throughout KwaZulu-Natal to reinforce grassroots policing and improve visibility in high-traffic areas. The deployment forms part of a broader strategy aimed at ensuring the safety of both residents and holidaymakers.
Duma made the announcement during the launch of the Easter Holiday Campaign at uMdloti, north of Durban, where authorities outlined plans to curb road accidents and crime during the peak travel season.
He also welcomed the deployment of Road Traffic Inspectorate members, saying more than 3,400 officials will be visible along major routes across the province.
“We do want to thank the minister for deploying the RTIMs as well because almost we got a cohort of 3,430 that is going to be visible on the roads of KwaZulu-Natal. From Kokstad to Port Edward, Pongola, Golela and Harrismith, there will be increased visibility,” Duma said.
Authorities say the integrated approach between law enforcement agencies is expected to enhance road safety, reduce criminal activity, and ensure a safer Easter holiday for all.
