KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has filed court papers against businessman Calvin Mathibeli, accusing him of defamation of character.
According to court documents, Mkhwanazi alleges that Mathibeli made statements on social media accusing him of corruption, involvement in unlawful killings, and being captured by private interests.
The comments were allegedly posted after members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) conducted operations at Mathibeli’s company, Calvin Security, and at his home as part of a national police action in December and February.
According to reports by MDN News, Mkhwanazi filed the application at the High Court in Durban on 19 February, following further allegations made by Mathibeli after SAPS reportedly raided his office premises on 13 February 2026.
The matter is expected to proceed before the court, where the commissioner is seeking legal recourse over what he describes as damaging and unfounded claims.
