Letoya Makhene opens up in new family reality show the ‘Makhenes’

South African actress and singer Letoya Makhene is set to invite viewers into her personal world through a new reality show titled The Makhenes.

Known for her roles in Generations: The Legacy and Isidingo, Makhene will now share a far more personal side of her life as the show explores the journey of the Makhene family across three generations.

The series offers an intimate look at the family’s story, spanning more than five decades and touching on themes of love, conflict, healing and transformation. Letoya’s journey forms the heart of the show as she balances life as a mother, public figure and spiritual healer while confronting personal struggles and difficult moments from her past.

Her story unfolds alongside those of her family members, including her father, veteran musician Blondie Makhene, and her sisters Pauline and Gontse. Together, they open up about unresolved tensions, family dynamics and deeply personal challenges.

Speaking about the project, Letoya said the show goes beyond the typical celebrity reality format.

“This is not just another celebrity reality show. It is raw and deeply honest. We are opening up like never before and showing our family exactly as we are,” she said.

She added that viewers should expect authenticity rather than glamour.

“There is nothing glossy or polished about it; it is real. Real love, real pain and real life. I show up as my true, authentic self at a time when I had lost everything and reached my lowest point. That is where this story begins.”

With its focus on vulnerability and healing, The Makhenes promises to give audiences a powerful and relatable glimpse into the realities behind one of South Africa’s well-known entertainment families.
