The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of a 59-year-old traditional leader during a housebreaking and robbery at the Traditional Authority’s Royal House in Hamakhubva Ndarieni village, in Thohoyandou.
The deceased has been identified as Vhamusanda (Khosi) Vho-Makhuvha Thiambiwi (Ntikedzeni) Eric.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday. It is alleged that two unknown suspects forcibly gained entry into the residence by breaking a window. Once inside, they reportedly demanded money and vehicle keys from the occupants.
During the ordeal, one victim sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The traditional leader was tragically declared deceased at the scene.
Police say the suspects fled with a white Toyota Hilux amongst other items.
The suspects were reportedly wearing balaclavas and security-type uniforms. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm, while the other carried a knife.
Lieutenant General Hadebe described the incident as senseless and urged members of the community to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
