The Lusikisiki massacre trial is expected to resume in the Mthatha High court on Monday. 18 people, where 15 women, two men and a 14-year-old boy were shot and killed in the Ngobozana Village more than a year ago.
Six accused — Mzukusi Ndamase, 46; Aphiwe “AP” Ndende, 25, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45, Mawethu Nomdlembu, 36, Bonga “Rico” Hintsa, 31, and Songezo “Mashiya” Vuma, 21 face a total of 29 charges, including 19 counts of murder.
All six have pleaded not guilty.
Two other men, Lwando Anthony Abi and Zenande Paya, who have turned state witnesses, had charges against them withdrawn.
Abi’s has accused Ndamase and other individuals as responsible for massacre.
In his last appearance, Abi told the court that Ndamase had earlier also ordered the killing of several other people, including senior Ingquza Hill municipal councillor Fundisile Ranai, 49, and his 18-year-old son, Siyolise, who were shot dead at their home in Lusikisiki’s Joe Slovo Park on September 16 2022.
Ndamase’s cross-examination is expected to continue on Monday when he returns to court.
Ndamase is already behind bars serving time for another murder.
It’s alleged he orchestrated the Lusikisiki murders from prison.
The trial will run until March 2026.
The accused face a string of charges, including 18 counts of murder related to the shooting, conspiracy to commit murder and the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
