Maluti man sentenced for life after raping a disabled woman
Do you remember a painful story of a disabled woman who was raped while asleep alone at her home at KwaSibi A/A in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape? The story brought live on The Informer news and digital television on facebook You Tube and twitter. The story shocked many people in Matatiele and the country especially because of the kind of disability the victim had.
A fourty year old Simpiwe Kwababa was arrested because the victim, Mangaka Ratothomoso 45, could be able to identify him as he was her brother’s friend. Court officials and police describe the court process of the victim as the most painful experience because of Mangak’s disability.
It is said that even the Investigating Officer faced challenges like having to go to the victim’s homestead to fetch her to court as she is unable to seat or walk on he own. Even at court she was carried by someone because of her disability.
The court heard that Khwababa attacked the victim whiles she was alone at her homestead. He forced open the door entered and raped her. The victim was unable to defend herself because of her disability. Mangaka is always on a sleeping position and cannot seat on herself since birth. Although she is 45 but she is like a three year old.
It is said that Khwababa went to her bed and removed her adult nappies and thereafter raped her.
Last week the Maluti Regional Court found Khwababa guilty of rape and was sentenced to Life Imprisonment.
