Man accused of killing a 14-year-old girl remains behind bars

The Dutywa Magistrate Court has postponed the case of murder suspect, Vusumzi Nqarhuni, 32-years-old to March 06 to allow ongoing investigation.

According to the police, the suspect is involved in the murder case of a 14-year-old girl from Mbande village, Timane A/A Dutywa that went missing on 29 December 2025.

After countless efforts trying to crack the case, police finally found a breakthrough when community members informed them of a recent burnt temporal house structure.

“Police were alerted by the community members who noticed a burnt prefeb structure in a certain homestead, and saw suspected human remains burnt beyond recognition. Police arrived on the scene, and the investigation began as there was a foul play suspected in the incident,” said police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa.

Investigation commenced and Nqarhuni was taken in for questioning and through thorough investigation he was arrested and charged for murder.

The suspect appeared at Dutywa Magistrate Court on Wednesday 14 January 2026 and the case was postponed to 06 March 2026. He is remanded in custody however investigation is ongoing.
