Man Arrested for Murder, Rape and Kidnapping of 7-Year-Old Girl in Parkside
ZWELITSHA, Eastern Cape – A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder, rape and kidnapping of a seven-year-old girl in Parkside, in a case that has shocked the local community.
The child’s body was discovered at a dumpsite in Second Creek on 4 April 2026. Police confirmed that she had been raped and strangled.
It is understood that the young girl was last seen playing with friends near a local spaza shop when an unknown man approached her and asked about her father. The other children reportedly left the scene without informing the child’s grandmother, after which the girl was reported missing.
A missing person case was opened, prompting a search operation involving Search and Rescue teams. The search ended in tragedy when the child’s body was later found at the dumpsite.
Investigators gathered key evidence, including witness statements from children who had seen the victim in the company of the suspect shortly before her disappearance. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the child had been sexually assaulted and died as a result of strangulation.
The suspect was arrested on 7 April 2026 following further police investigations.
He is expected to appear before the East London Magistrate court today
