Mpumalanga police have opened two murder cases and an inquest docket after a man allegedly shot and killed his wife and their three-year-old son before turning the gun on himself in Verena.
Provincial police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane said officers arrived at the scene and spoke to a neighbour who reported that the suspect had been involved in a heated argument with his wife.
“The suspect allegedly drew a firearm and shot his 43-year-old wife and their three-year-old son,” Ndubane said.
Police said the man also allegedly shot and injured his sister-in-law and his wife’s uncle, while a neighbour escaped unharmed.
The suspect later fled with his six-year-old daughter to his parents’ home, where police found him inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound and no signs of life.
The six-year-old girl, who was also shot, managed to escape and seek help from her grandmother and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
