A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend in the Butterworth High Court.
The court found that the accused, who was on parole at the time, fatally assaulted his 23-year-old partner on 28 June 2025 in Mbongendlu Location, Khobodi Administrative Area. The victim later died after collapsing shortly after the attack.
Evidence showed she sustained multiple injuries, including four open head wounds, and an iron pipe believed to have been used in the assault was recovered at the scene.
The accused was arrested the same day and first appeared in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court, where he was denied bail. He was convicted and sentenced following a trial held from 16 to 20 March 2026.
Police have welcomed the conviction, saying it reinforces efforts to hold perpetrators of violent crime accountable.
