MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE AND 35 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR KILLING HIS TWO GIRLFRIENDS

The Maluti Regional Court near Matatiele in the Eastern Cape sentenced a man who killed his two girlfriends to more than a life imprisonment on Wednesday. Zingisile Victor Ntokozo Kakana 39 from Hlomendlini Location in Matatiele was found guilty of killing his two girlfriends, Constable Phumla Mabindisa 47 who was stationed at Cedarville and Noluyolo Mpumlwana 36, in December 25 2021. Kakana was in court facing charges of murder, theft of firearm (service pistol), illegal possession of fire arm and ammunition.
The Court heard that on the 25th of December 2021, Kakana shot and killed his girlfriend, Constable Pumla Mabindisa (47) who was attached to Cedarville Police Station with her service pistol. The accused and the deceased were in a relationship for six years. He then left her corpse in her place of residence and went to Magadla location to meet his other girlfriend, Noluvuyo Mpumlwana (36) to whom he confessed about him fatally wounding the police woman. Noluvuyo wanted to report him to the police for the criminal conduct and that led him to murdering Noluvuyo as well .
During the trial kakana told the court that he killed Phumla because he found her with another man at her home in Mt Fletcher on the night of the 23rd of December. He further said that him and Phumla had an agreement that they rather kill each other. On the same day he went to Magadla location where he shot Noluvuyo his second girlfriend then he handed himself to police.
Sentencing the accused magistrate said he is sending a message to who ever who want to commit such crimes that Gender based Violence is wrong. He then sentenced Kakana as followes
Kakana was sentenced as follows:
-15 years imprisonment sentence for theft of firearm(service pistol);
20 years imprisonment for the murder of his police officer girlfriend;
life sentence for the premeditated murder of his other girlfriend;
5 years for possession of unlicensed firearm and 3 years for possession of ammunition. Theft, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition will run concurrently.Kakana will therefore spend life imprisonment and 35 additional years.
