South African Gayton McKenzie confirmed that money has been paid to the South African Football Association to implement VAR in PSL matches.
Although promised for this season, VAR has not yet been used. Initial costs are between R70–R80 million, plus R70,000 per game.
McKenzie said: “Football is not waiting for South Africa. We are ready. We’ve kept our promise of VAR.”
The move underscores the government’s push to modernize South African football.
