Mob justice horror: man killed, two burned alive in Qunu over cable theft allegations

Norman Modishana, OR Tambo District Commissioner, has condemned a brutal mob attack that left one man dead and two others severely injured at Empa locality in the Qunu Administrative Area on Tuesday morning.

Police say three men, all believed to be in their 30s, were accused by community members of stealing electricity cables before being violently attacked. Officers responded to reports of suspected thieves being apprehended, only to find a horrific scene upon arrival.

The victims were discovered lying next to the road, their bodies severely burnt. One man had already died from his injuries, while the other two were still alive and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. No community members were found at the scene.

Major General Modishana strongly condemned the incident, warning against mob justice and urging residents to allow law enforcement to handle criminal matters.

Police have launched a manhunt and are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to arrests and successful prosecution to come forward
