The South African Police Service has arrested additional suspects linked to the alleged insurance-related murder case involving former police sergeant Rachel Shokane-Kutumela.
Kutumela, 43, who was previously stationed at Senwabarwana police station in Limpopo, is accused of being part of a scheme in which at least nine people were allegedly killed to claim insurance payouts worth more than R10 million.
Four suspects — Kutumela, her sister Anna Shokane (47), her brother Leshweng Johannes Shokane (53), and her daughter Florah Shokane (23) — remain in custody after they were denied bail.
They face 32 charges, including nine counts of murder, fraud, money laundering, receiving proceeds of unlawful activities and defeating the ends of justice.
The group was arrested in October last year and has been awaiting the outcome of their bail application since December. The case has now been transferred to the Polokwane High Court for further proceedings.
