Mpumalanga education officials granted bail in Nelspruit

Several Mpumalanga education officials arrested by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) have been granted bail by the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud and corruption.

The State requested bail of R50,000, which the magistrate granted in several cases. Former Mpumalanga Department of Education acting CFO Absolom Thela, his daughter Palesa Thela, Nono Maribe and Ruth Khoza were each granted R50,000 bail.

Service provider Consolation Mdluli, who is wheelchair-bound, was granted R5,000 bail.

Other accused remain in custody at the Nelspruit Police Station and are expected to appear in court alongside three additional suspects arrested yesterday.

The case has been postponed to March as investigations continue.
