Mpumalanga matric top achiever rewarded with a new car

Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu handed out the keys during the announcement of the province’s Matric results at the Lillian Ngoyi Centre in Secunda on Tuesday, 13 January 2026.
Ndlovu also applauded all the Matriculants, saying: “The class of 2025 achieved an impressive pass rate of 88%”.
He added: “In Mpumalanga, the pass rate stands at 86.55%, marking a significant improvement for the province.”
Education MEC Lindi Masina said the province was proud of the great achievement, although the target was a pass rate of at least 90%.
“It gives me pleasure to announce that the class of 2025 registered 69 510 candidates and that 67 114 candidates wrote all the subjects on offer. The provincial pass rate target for 2025 was set at 90%,” Masina said.
“It is therefore my pleasure to announce that the 2025 Grade 12 Class in Mpumalanga Province achieved an overall and impressive 86,5% pass rate.
“’This is truly exciting and represents a 1.5% improvement from the 84.99 % rate achieved in 2024.”
The MEC said the rewards for being the top Matric candidate serve as an inspiration to other learners to do well and achieve the goals they set for themselves.
“It is our way of inspiring every learner to strive for greatness irrespective of their circumstances.”
