The National Consumer Commission has issued a notice to consumers regarding the recall of certain Ford Ranger XLT, Ford Ranger Wildtrak, Ford Puma, and Hino 700 vehicles, as advised by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (PTY) Ltd and Toyota South Africa Motors (PTY) Ltd.
Ford Ranger XLT and Wildtrak
Ford is recalling 438 units of 2025 Ford Ranger XLT and Wildtrak vehicles sold nationally between 18 February 2025 and 18 March 2025. The recall addresses a potential failure of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, which may cause a loss of engine power, particularly at speeds below 24 km/h. Drivers may also notice warning indicators such as a check engine light, weak acceleration, engine vibration, or engine starting issues. A loss of power while driving could increase the risk of accidents.
Ford Puma
Ford is also recalling 26 units of 2023–2024 model year Ford Puma vehicles sold between 28 April 2022 and 25 September 2023. These vehicles were part of a previous recall, but the Restraint Control Module (RCM) software may not have been correctly installed. If unresolved, this could compromise the vehicle’s restraint system, increasing the risk of injury during an accident.
Hino 700
Toyota has recalled 58 Hino 700 series vehicles sold between 4 February 2025 and 9 November 2025. The vehicles may have defects in the fuel pump housing due to improper surface treatment during production, potentially causing cracks and fuel leaks under high load conditions.
The NCC urges owners of affected vehicles to take them to the nearest authorised Ford or Toyota dealership for repairs. All repairs will be carried out at no cost to consumers.
Consumers can contact their dealership for further information or check the NCC website for details on affected vehicles.
