NEW GENERAL MANAGER MELTS MATATIELE RESIDENTS HEARTS, BUT THEY WARNED HER ,”FOCUS ON YOUR JOB”

Residents of Matatiele in the province of the Eastern Cape have welcomed the new General Manager of Infrastructure, Planning and Development, Sisekho Sako not only with open arms but have told her that she must focus on her job. Sako began her five year term contract in the new position on the 1st of February 2023. After Sako was welcomed by the council and the Municipal Manager, the municipality’s communications department introduced her to the community through media. Residents then welcomed and warned her by writing on facebook.

Congrats and go and fix roads of Matatiele we tired of gravel and small town, invites investors for Malls etc. We needed people like you as yesterday please please!!!, wrote Lindi Molisane Moloi.

Thembelihle Maphuhla wrote Hope changes will appeal to the communities of Matatiele.

Some of the residents did not shy away from appreciating her looks and warning her against corrupt leaders of the municipality.

One of the most important qualities that led residents to be in love with  Sako is her academic qualifications and the experience that he is bringing to the municipality in the field that she is hired for.

Sako’s academic qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the Durban University of Technology; a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology specialising in Construction Management, National Diploma in Civil Engineering, Practical Project Management from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University now Nelson Mandela University, Diploma in Leadership & Management and she also has one of the prerequisite courses needed for any employee in local government called Municipal Financial Management.

She brings with her 12 years of experience in the Local Government field, especially the scarce skill – civil engineering, which her role as the General Manager of IPD requires. She was previously working for Elundini Local Municipality where as a Director for Infrastructure Planning and Development. She also worked for Ingquza Hill Local Municipality and Sundays River Valley Municipality as Project Management Unit (PMU) Manager respectively. Her career journey includes among others, working as a Civil Engineering Technician in various institutions, she is also a full member of the Institute for Local Government Management of South Africa and is registered as Candidate Engineering Technician by the Engineering Council of South Africa.

“We are happy that we have managed to conclude the recruitment processes of this critical position on time, to ensure smooth administration and fast-tracking of service provision to the people of Matatiele,” said the Municipal Manager,  Lizo Matiwane.

 

“As the Municipality we wish her all the best in bettering the lives of the people of Matatiele. She joins the institution at a time where we need a long lasting solution regarding our access roads and challenges of aging electricity infrastructure in town to mention but a few” – said Mayor Cllr Sonwabile Mngenela.

 

The General Manager’s position became vacant when Mothusi Lehlehla resigned in September 2022.
