50-year-old mother asks for public to assist in finding missing son

By Simbongile Mdledle

Three years later, a 50-year-old mother from Corhana, Mthatha is suffering from depression since her then 23-year-old son disappeared without a trace. Phumeza Nkonyana says she prays day and night for her son’s return, even if it is his remains. Lwandile Nkonyane left home in Kungoboza Location in 2018 without informing anyone where he was embarking to. “When he was leaving the house, I was under the impression that he was going to see his friends as he usually does after completing his chores. Never have I ever imagined that three years later, I would still be looking at the gate with the hope to see him return home,” said the distraught mother.

Following sleepless nights in 2019, Nkonyane was admitted to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital due to depression. The desperate mother says she tried everything in an attempt to find her son” I visited sangomas, prophets and all kinds of traditional healers but with no success…

“Some told me my son is still alive and that he is captured by dark spiritual forces, meanwhile, others say he is staying in an old RDP house somewhere in Mthatha, with others going as far as telling me that he is a Phara smoking nyaope in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, said Nkonyane,” said Nkonyane

The emotional mother says she has not lost hope in finding her son” I haven’t lost hope of finding him. If he is dead I pray for the recovery of his remains so that I can find closure and allow his soul to rest in peace,” said Nkonyeni tears rolling down her cheeks.

Meanwhile, anyone with information about Lwandile may contact his mom on 071 061 8542.
