A man who cut open girlfriend’s throat admits to murder

35-year-old Avumile Simile Thobela Swekile admitted before the Mthatha Magistrate Court, Eastern Cape that he butchered his late girlfriend, Gcotyiswa Mbhobho with a knife. The gruesome incident happened inside the deceased’s house in Chris Hani Park, Kwa B, Mthatha.
The body of Gcotyiswa (34), a pre-primary Model C private school teacher in Mthatha was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds and her throat cut wide open in the yard where they rented together.
According to reports, Mbhobho was involved in a toxic relationship with the accused. It is further alleged that before the accused took Gcotyiswa’s life, he also admitted to setting the deceased’s rental flat alight whilst she was away to visit her twin sister.
During his court appearance, Swekile who hails from Mpandela location near Mthatha stressed that the court must fast track the case because he is the one who committed this heinous crime and he needs no further investigations. He said the process of transferring this case to the regional court must be the matter of urgency as he doesn’t want the case to drag for too long. The magistrate told the accused that the court is still waiting for post mortem results and the case will be transferred to Mthatha regional court.
The case has since been postponed to 11 January next year, The accused remains in custody.
