Alfred Nzo District Municipality declares Municipal Manager position vacant following disciplinary ruling; Sikhundla vows to fight decision
In a council meeting held on October 16, 2024, the Alfred Nzo District Municipality officially declared the Municipal Manager position vacant. In a statement Strategic Manager Nelisile Xolo said the decision follows the outcome of a disciplinary hearing that found Mr. Zamile Sikhundla guilty of 13 charges. He said based on these findings, the hearing committee recommended Mr. Sikhundla’s formal release from his duties.
According to Xolo the chairperson of the disciplinary hearing communicated the decision to the Executive Mayor, who subsequently presented the report to the council. “After reviewing the findings, the council accepted the report and endorsed the recommendations, moving to formally declare the Municipal Manager position vacant.”
“The decision has been communicated to Mr. Sikhundla, and the Municipality has initiated the process to fill the vacancy. Assuring residents that service delivery will remain unaffected, the Municipality has appointed an acting Municipal Manager to maintain stability and ensure continuity”, said Xolo
Reacting to the decision, Mr. Sikhundla expressed shock and dismay, calling it “silly behavior” on the part of his employers. He stated, “I received the letter terminating my service and was preparing my response when I saw the press statement. I was also surprised to see an advertisement for my position while I am still contesting the disciplinary findings.”
In an impassioned response, Sikhundla vowed to challenge the decision. “I promise you, I am going to fight this to the last moment. This is just the beginning of the battle,” he declared.
As the Municipality proceeds with filling the position, it reassures the community that operational stability remains a top priority.
