ANC sends condolences after 8 killed in horrific taxi crash
The African National Congress in the Eastern Cape says it is gravely saddened by the passing of eight passengers who were killed in a horrible accident just outside Mthatha on Sunday evening.
According to the department of transport Spokesperson, Unathin Binqose, two minibus taxis collided outside Mthatha towards Qumbu. Seven people died on the scene, while the 8th victim died on arrival to hospital.
African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Spokesperson Gift Ngqondi says despite government’s effort to improve traffic enforcement officers visibility, the loss of lives on the roads is absurd.
“Its a sad day for the Province, and a chilling reminder that despite the best efforts of our road traffic enforcement authorities, the numbers of lives lost to accidents on our roads remain worrying high. We commend emergency services as well as members of the community who were on the scene to attend to the injured,” said Ngqodi
The governing party also sent its condolences to the affected families
“We send our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the beareved families and we call on Department of Transport, Department of Social Development , Road Accident Fund and all relevant authorities to provide all the necessary support and assistance to the families in this difficult time,” said Ngqondi.
A case of culpable homicide has been registered at Libode SAPS.
