Bail application dismissed for suspended prosecutor

Suspended District court prosecutor, Dumisani Kumbaca, will continue to be remanded in custody. This is after the Grahamstown High Court dismissed his appeal against the East London Magistrate’s Court to deny.

According to the High Court, Kumbaca’s experience as a prosecutor and a former policeman would likely cause him to undermine the judicial process. Kumbaca was arrested in East London on the 13th of January this year following a police sting operation two days earlier.

He faces charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice for allegedly burning two drunken driving case dockets and quashing charges against 33-year-old Mzoxolo Twangu, who paid him a total of R25 000.
