Cele describes police killings as ‘crises’
Minister of Police Bheki Cele says a total of 82 police officers have been killed in the past seven months to criminal attacks and ambushes. Cele was delivering the eulogy at the funeral service oof Sergeant Riyadh Adams in KwaZulu-Natal.
“We are appalled that about 10 police officers have been killed every single month since April; all at the hands of criminals…This is why I will forever call on police to fight fire with fire especially when their lives are threatened. No officer must ever die with a weapon in their hands, he said.
Sergeant Riyadh Adams was shot on Sunday by the robbers as they were making their getaway at Pavilion shopping Centre in Westville. They had targeted two stores at the shopping Centre and came across Adams’ police vehicle on their way out. The officer died of his injuries in hospital.
