Cocain worth R200K stolen from HAWKS offices
Hawks officials have confirmed that over R200 million worth of cocaine’s been stolen from their offices in Port Shepstone, on the south coast, after a break-in.
Spokesperson Nomthandazo Mbambo says the burglars entered the Serious Organised Crime building through a window, which they forced open.
She says a safe, used to store exhibits, was tampered with something between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.
“The suspects stole 541kg cocaine drugs to the street value of R200 million and ransacked the office where safes were kept.
“The National Head of the DPCI, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has appointed the Deputy National Head, Lt Gen Tebello Constance Mosikili to conduct an Inquiry into the circumstances of the theft whilst the Detective and Forensic Service has been requested to investigate the matter.
“No suspects have been arrested in the matter.”
A case of business burglary has been opened.
