DJ hit hard by covid-19 turns to farming

Simbongile Mdledle

Popular Dj in Mthatha turns to poultry farming after the entertainment industry was hit hard by Covid-19 strict lockdown. Tozama Ndamase popularly known as DJ Tozi together with her brothers utilizes a land they were allocated with by their parents in Bhungu Village, Libode by ploughing vegetables.

The renowned Dj changed the tune of spinning the vinyl after the country was placed on a strict lockdown, which prohibited social gatherings

“The outbreak of the COVID 19 closed the doors for us as artists, so that’s why I decided to take this route in order to survive. I grew up using the land with my parents, so I did not find any hustle when I was taking this venture. The business is good. We sell our products in local villages and schools”, she said.

Ndamase said they intend to expand the market by penetrating the big supermarkets in Libode and Mthatha. “We lack support from local big businesses, but we are hoping that one day they will change and support the local economy rather than place orders in provinces like KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape.”

DJ Tozi stressed that she will not forsake spinning the vinyl and that when the country starts to fully open the industry, she will go back to making people dance.
