EC man sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the rape of 67-year-old woman

Matatiele: The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit’s hard work to address the scourge of crimes against women and children paid off. This comes after the Butterworth Regional Magistrates’ Court sentenced 27-year-old Andile Mokolo on Tuesday, 15 March 2022 to undergo 20 years imprisonment for the rape of a 67-year-old woman.
The sentence emanates from an incident that happened at Ngxaxa Village, Dutywa on Sunday, 09 April 2017. It is alleged that the victim was sleeping alone in her home when she saw a man standing next to her bed and he strangled and raped her. The man gained entry through the window.
The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was traced and arrested the following day (10 April 2017).
The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu applauded the members for their swift response that resulted in the arrest. “I would like to commend the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Siyabulela Yenana for his thorough investigation” said Brigadier Xakavu
