EC uses technology to improve scholar transport service
The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has introduced a new Learner Transport Management System to help improve the day to day running of the Scholar Transport system and help eliminate possible human manipulation and human errors within the scholar transport service.
Departmental Spokesperson, Unathi Bonqose ” The new technology will help in managing and monitoring the end-to-end process of the Scholar Transport Programme with the aim of increasing capacity to deliver accurate information, provide a coherent performance monitoring system and eliminate, over and under payments.
” The department believe that this new system will be a catalyst for a more efficient Scholar Transport Service going forward.”
Transport MEC, Xolile Nqatha has commended the department for the innovation to address the challenges facing the Scholar Transport Programme.
“Any sort of intervention that seeks to improve this all-important service has to be applauded. I am looking forward to its implementation and hope that the results will be as anticipated,” said MEC Nqatha.
According to the department, the new system will also address the internal control deficiencies around Scholar Transport Programme, which has largely been the cause of the negative audit report from Auditor General.
