EMaxesibeni alleged car hijacker turns gun on himself during shootout with police
A suspected vehicle hijacker shot and killed himself, before a second suspect was arrested near eMaxesibeni in the Eastern Cape.
According to reports, the Highway Patrol Unit received information regarding a motor vehicle that was hijacked in Msobomvu in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The vehicle, which was heading in the direction of eMaxesibeni was stopped and two men, one with a firearm, fled on foot in different directions.
A shoot-out ensued between police and one of the suspects, who, later while being chased, turned the gun on himself.
He died at the scene.
A 9mm pistol with the serial number filed off, was found next to him.
The second suspect, aged 33, was found hiding and is expected to appear in court.
