EC Prosecutor murdered-female police sergeant to be charged
A man has appeared in court in Cradock in connection with the murder of a state prosecutor who was shot dead on Saturday night.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape, Anelisa Ngcakani, says the 36-year-old District Court Prosecutor stationed in Lusikisi, Sivenathi Ralarala, was murdered outside his home, allegedly by the 45-year-old Mdumiseni Mduzi Mkhize who was in the company of a female police sergeant.
She says Ralarala was at his family home in Cradock when the 45-year-old Mkhize arrived and asked to speak to him before allegedly shooting him.
Mkhize, who was in the company of a female suspect, sped away in a silver Hyundai that was located by Mthatha police along the R61 a short while later.
Ngcakani says police pulled the vehicle over to question the occupants and during the conversation, the woman in the car shot herself in the head.
A police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu at the time said “While the woman was being questioned, she took out a pistol and shot herself in the head.”
A 9mm pistol and a fully loaded magazine with one cartridge were confiscated at the scene.
The officer, whose identity will be made public once she is charged, was rushed to the hospital where she remains in critical condition.
Mkhize’s case was remanded until the 8th of October for a possible bail application.
Ngcakani says the NPA will oppose bail in this matter as it will be prosecuted as a schedule 6 offence.
