Fire fighters sustain injuries after attack by protesters
Three Johannesburg emergency services workers were rushed to a nearby hospital after they were attacked by angry members of the community in Eldorado Park on Sunday evening.
Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi residents started the fire during a service delivery protest and stoned a fire engine, which had responded to a fire in the area.
“Before arrival to the incident, they meet a group of community members who were protesting about service delivery in the area. The protesters started stoning the fire engine and in the process three firefighters were injured. They were immediately transported to Milpark Hospital for medical care.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the attack on the firefighters is concerning.
“We are indeed very much disturbed about this incident because it does not only create fear and panic among firefighters, it also affects service delivery. We are pleading with our communities to refrain from attacking emergency services personnel while rendering important services to our communities.
The matter has been reported at the Eldorado Park Police station because of all the damage to the property.
