GOMOLO COMMUNITY IN PSJ PLEDGES TO SUSPEND PROTEST ACTIONS AFTER A MEETING WITH MEC TIKANA-GXOTIWE
Gomolo Villagers have pledged to suspend protests actions after a lengthy meeting with Transport and Community Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe.
Protests in that community have reportedly affected schooling and on some occasions, allegedly forced healthcare workers including doctors and nurses to flee Silimela Hospital as protestors allegedly entered the premises and threatened workers. This has seen Public Order Police being deployed to the area to restore law and order. The riot caused by the community members is because of a certain ward councillor they want to be removed from office.
“I am happy I met with them as a representative of this ANC led government. I am even happier with the outcomes of our meeting and their commitment to suspend their protest actions to seek a peaceful solution to their problems. The disruption of schooling and interruptions in the provision of healthcare services has to be condemned, that is why I paid this special visit. I have all the confidence that their leadership will be able to rein in their members and allow the work of government to continue unhindered,” said Tikana-Gxotiwe.
Tikana-Gxotiwe ended her visit with a quick stop at Silimela Hospital for a brief meeting with the hospital management who had been traumatised by the events of the past couple of months when the protest was at its peak. The MEC has pledged to return to the community in less than two months for a report
