Identification of victims killed in a freak accident continues
The process of identifying the bodies of the remaining victims that were killed in a collision involving a truck and a minibus taxi on the N9 outside Middleburg in Eastern Cape is set to continue today.
The taxi was travelling from Eastern Cape to Western Cape
It is alleged that a heavy-duty truck hit a stray animal and the driver lost control. As the driver was trying it regain control, its trailer gave in and fell over, right in that moment as a fully loaded taxi was parallel to it, driving the opposite direction.
The minibus taxi was travelling from the Eastern Cape to Western Cape while the truck was going the opposite direction. The trailer crashed the taxi killing everybody inside it.
The 15 deceased including *9 females and 4 males* among them were 2 children (2 years and 2 months).
Eastern Cape Department of Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose said “The process identifying the bodies in that accident that claimed 15 lives last night has already started. Six bodies have already been positively identified and tomorrow we are expecting the outstanding bodies will be identified.”
The MEC for Transport Mr Xolile Nqatha is expected to join the mourners as they will be identifying the bodies of their loved ones.
