KSD MUNICIPALITY MANAGER ARRESTED FOR FRAUD
Eastern Cape’s King Sabata Dalinyebo Municipality Manager Ngamela Phakade has been released on bail amounting to R20 000 by the Crimes Commercial Court in Mthatha.
Phakade was arrested on Friday by the Hawks for corruption dating to back 2011/12 amounting to R18 million. According to reports, the charges relate to a road construction project dating back to the 2011/2012 financial year.
Hawks spokesperson Yolisa Mgolodela says the suspect at the time of committing the crime was working for another municipality Mgolodela says Phakade disregarded standard procurement policies facilitating the inflation of the cost allocated to the project. The investigation took five years and more arrests are imminent.
The date for the trial has been set for November 9.
