KwaBhaca prominent businessman dies

Kwabhaca businessman who ran multiple funeral parlours across the country, Mzomhle Mpiti has died. Mpiti died last Monday, 08 December in Ntabeni Hospital, KwaZulu-Natal. According to the family, Mpiti died of a natural cause

Mpiti was born on 21 March 1961 in Mpoza location in KwaBhaca, formerly known as Mount Frere.

After completing his secondary education at Fort Malan Secondary School in Willowvale, he first worked as a clerk in a coal mine in Utrecht. He then joined the police service in the then Transkei, stationed in Lusikisiki. After having worked for the police service, he joined different insurance companies. The late businessman also joined the taxi industry. Mpiti was also involved in the film and video production industry with the influence of Mandla Daniel. Later on, he joined the funeral industry and first opened his site called Mpiti Funeral undertakers in Bizana. After a successful run, he opened company branches in Kokstad, Flagstaff and Matatitele.

During his tenure in the business, he was also elected as president of the Bizana Chamber of Commerce and later an executive member of the Wild Coast Business Council. He also served as a board member of St Patricks Hospital. He was well known Good Samaritan in many communities, organizations, churches, political formations and schools.

His former colleague in police service Mcebisi Sidiya, described him as a very dedicated man in his job and who was focused on life. He said Mpiti was fearless as they used to arrest a number of untouchable people whilst they were still policing in Eastern Mpondoland. “This man was a true friend of mine whom we walked so many difficult paths in our time of working together even after his adventure to business our relationship remained content,” said Sidiya.

Mpiti is leaving behind his wife Busiswa, his three children, Qaqamba, Qiqa, and Nosiphiwo. His funeral service will take place this coming Sunday, December 12 at Ugu Sports Complex as he relocated to Margate where he was staying with his family.
