Man accused of killing wife, then buried the body in the house wants bail
Butterworth Magistrate’s Court has postponed the bail hearing of a man accused of murdering his wife, buried the body under a bathtub two years ago to 10 September.
Yibanathi MacGyver Ndema was also charged with defeating the ends of justice at Wednesday’s court appearance for reporting his wife as missing more than two years ago.
The search for 34-year-old caregiver Noluvuyo Ndema-Nonkwelo ended in tragedy this week when her remains were discovered buried underneath a bathtub in her home at Dutywa.
Ndema-Nonkwelo, who was employed by the Eastern Cape Department of Health as an HIV & AIDS lay counsellor, was reported missing by Ndema on the 3rd of July 2019.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Luxolo Tyali says it is alleged that Ndema killed his wife two days prior to reporting her missing.
According to police, a family member became suspicious when they saw the family bathtub no longer mounted on the floor.
The person made contact with police which led to the grim discovery.
Ndema indicated in court that he wanted to apply for bail and requested assistance from Legal Aid.
