Matatiele municipality granted court interdict
Matatiele Local Municipality has received an interim order to interdict members of the community who are grabbing the vacant land in town. Municipal Manager Lizo Matiwane was speaking in an interview with the informer today. He said the order will be delivered by the Sheriff of the court to the sighted individuals.
“We got the interim order and the Sherriff of the Court is expected to deliver the papers to the sighted individuals. These are people whom we regard as leaders of the land grab”, he said.
He refused to divulge the names of those individuals but the informer has reliable been told that Mohato Moshoeshoe and Simbongile Dyantyi are appearing in the order papers.
In an interview, Moshoeshoe said he heard that his name appears in the court order but has not received anything.
Meanwhile, members of the community at Itsoekolele and Harry Gwala areas vowed to continue with land invasion in a meeting at Nokwezi Hall on Monday last week.
Ten people were elected by the communities to represent them in an engagement with the municipality. In a meeting, the elected members had a one on one session with the municipal Manager where they demanded the revival of the rent to buy project mooted eight years ago, five thousand housing units to deal with the congestion of families in small houses.
Meanwhile, land grabbing is continuing in the Cedarville area. On Thursday, during the budget speech at Ward 23, on Thursday, Mayor Cllr Momelezi Mbedla said the municipality will never allow land invasion in Matatiele.
