Minister in the Presidency for Women meets family of slain daughter, Nosicelo Mtebeni

Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane on Monday visited the family of the slain and dismembered GBV victim Nosicelo Mtebeni at Khauoe, Matatiele.

Nkoana – Mashabane says her department is working on a collaborative effort with other departments to fight Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. Mashabane was speaking after she met with the grieving family of Nosicelo Mtebeni at the Khauoe location. She says lack of facilities such as DNA centres and issues such as missing dockets from police stations are issues that women of this country fought for and should be issues of the past. “The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities wishes to express its outrage at the senseless killing of a fourth-year student at the University of Fort Hare, Ms Nosicelo Mtebeni. Even during Women’s Month – a month dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women, and women’s contribution to South Africa’s growth – murders like this continue unabated. Women’s month is rendered meaningless because women still live in fear every single day” said Mashabane

Mtebeni’s dismembered body was found in a suitcase in the suburb of Quigney in East London on Thursday.

A 25-year-old male believed to be Mtebeni’s boyfriend Alutha Pasile was apprehended by the police for allegedly murdering and has since opted to abandone bail.

Some of Mtebeni’s body parts were discovered in bags placed outside the boyfriend’s residence, while her head and hands were discovered inside his room.

It is alleged he used a handsaw to dismember her body.
