Ministers rescued from military hostage

Defence Minister Thandi Modise, Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele and Deputy Minister of Defence Thabang Makwetla have since been rescued from the so-called military veterans and taken to a place of safety.

This is after they were held hostage for almost three hours at the St George’s Hotel in Centurion, Gauteng on Thursday.

The military veterans who allegedly demanded over R4 million each, housing, medical aid and bursaries for their children.

According to national police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo, 56 people, including seven women, were arrested for kidnapping. Three other three people were injured and taken to hospital for medical checks; however, he didn’t elaborate on the nature of their injuries.
