Municipality destroys shacks belonging to land invaders

The Buffalo City Metro Human Settlements together with the South African Police Services on Wednesday dismantled about 26 shacks in the Westbank Restitution area, East London. The shacks were built by people invading private land.

BCM said it wants to send strong messages that land invasions will not be tolerated”As the City, we want to ensure that there is no land invasion taking place in the Westbank area as per the court order that has been granted by the East London High court,” said the Metro.

The operation comes after an audit was conducted and all the parcels in the Metro were audited and categorised with ownership identified.
