
South Africa is among the few countries on the continent that allows citizens abroad to
participate in the elections.
On the 17th and 18th of May 2024 South African citizens will be voting at the country’s 111 foreign
missions. They saw this year’s record number of registered voters abroad.
It is all systems go for those who will vote abroad on the17th and 18th of May 2024, says Naledi
Pandor the Minister of International Relations.
London, UK, The Hague in the Netherlands, Canberra, Australia, and Dubai in the UAE are
some of the largest international voting overseas next week.
Several Political Parties utter aloud that people must not forget this opportunity of voting on the
29 of May 2024.
Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) Leader Julius Malema says, “Even those who are voting
overseas next week, they must make sure all overseas voters vote for the EFF raised the red
flag”.
Democratic Alliance (DA) Leader John Steenhuisen says this is the moment for South Africans
to exercise their right to vote wherever they and more people are going to be able to vote.
The IEC is working with the International Relations and Co-Operation Department, they have
been dispatched voting materials including voting booths, ballot boxes, stationary packs, and
the relevant lists of approved voters.
Masego Sheburi IEC Deputy Chief Electoral Officer says they will be opening voting stations in
nine countries on the 17 th of May. Due to conflict Sudan, Ukraine, and Israel voting will not take
place.
The Electoral board further says after the voting process, the ballots will be transported through
a secure channel back to the national office of the electoral commission for counting. The votes
will be counted in the presence of agents representing contestants.
