Police investigate culpable homicide
Graaff-Reinet detectives are investigating a culpable homicide case following the death of a 51-year-old man on Tuesday 19 December in an accident on the N9 about 37km outside Graaff Reinet, towards Middleburg.
It is alleged that the deceased was the driver of a VW POLO which had five passengers. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle veered off the road. The vehicle capsized, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. The driver sustained serious head injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the paramedics. Three of the five passengers were conveyed to hospital for medical treatment, while the other two didn’t sustain any injuries.
The Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Major General Zolani Xawuka, cautions motorists to adhere to the rules of the road, be considerate to fellow travellers, “Don’t Drink and Drive, Arive Alive,” added Major General Xawuka.
