Prison Warder arrested for dealing in drugs
A 38-year-old Correctional Services Officer at St Albans prison in Gqeberha has been arrested on charges of dealing drugs. According to Police Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said he was arrested by members of a multi-disciplinary team on Sunday during which several cell phones were also seized.
A team comprising of Gqeberha K9 Unit, the Anti-Gang Unit, and the Department of Correctional Services, conducted a stop and search of vehicles and personnel entering the facility at 5 am on Sunday morning.
“During the search of a Mercedes minibus, police K9 ‘Coda’ reacted to a package which contained drugs. Further investigation led the team to search a prison cell where more drugs, dagga, cocaine and tik, six cell phones, and three cell phone chargers were seized,” she said.
400 mandrax tablets, two rolls of dagga, 14 packets of cocaine, 34 packets of tik and cash were confiscated.
