Protesters set municipal offices alight

Police in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape are on the search for arsonists, this is after a section of the local municipal offices was petrol bombed in the early hours of Tuesday.  According to Colonel, Priscilla Naidu, the incident was witnessed by patrolling security guards at around 3am.

The guards quickly alerted the fire department officials who successfully managed the fire” The fire department was too fast to respond and only three window panes and wooden tables were damaged. Makhanda community members had been protesting for service delivery since Monday. A statement released on the Municipality’s official social media page stated that service delivery would be placed on halt and employees were unable to travel the state vehicles for safety reasons.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
