Rough seas and heavy rains expected in KZN
The KwaZulu-Natal government has warned residents and businesses, especially those situated in coastal towns, of potentially damaging waves that could disrupt harbours and cause damage to coastal infrastructure.
The eThekwini metro, and the Ray Nkonyeni, uMdoni, KwaDukuza, Mandeni, and uMlalazi municipality maybe affected.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Level 4 warning for damaging waves along the coast, affecting coastal municipalities between Port Edward and Richards Bay in the north.
According to the warning, waves are expected to reach heights of 4 metres to 5 metres, accompanied by winds ranging from 35 to 40 knots along the KwaZulu-Natal coast.
“The public is encouraged to pay close attention to all notices issued by the municipality and to take proactive measures to ensure their safety. It is encouraged that swimmers and beachgoers avoid entering the ocean during this period. Small vessels are advised to seek shelter in the nearest harbour,” said COGTA department spokesperson Siboniso Mngadi said.
