SIX SUSPECTS APPEAR IN COURT FOR MOB JUSTICE INVOLVEMENT
The Roodepoort Magistrates Court postponed the case against six people accused of being part of the Zandspruit mob justice attack that claimed eight lives.
The six, that cannot be named at this stage as the state intends to hold an identity parade, appeared on charges of murder, kidnapping and attempted murder. It is alleged that in the early hours of 19 May 2021, the community of Zandspruit went on a vigilante operation hunting down those they blamed for terrorising the community.
Nine of those were taken forcefully from their homes, assaulted and ultimately burnt at the nearby soccer field. Eight of them succumbed to assault and burn wounds whilst the ninth person is recovering in hospital. The accused will remain in custody until their next court appearance on 09 June 2021 for bail application proceedings.
