Spike in Covid-19 cases in the Eastern Cape Province

The Eastern Cape Health Department says new Covid-19 cases in the province have increased by 28,7% in the last week.
It says in the 24 hours up until Saturday evening, 1,252 new cases were reported, of which 46,6% were in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

The Sarah Baartman district recorded 15,4%, the Chris Hani district 15,8%, and the Buffalo City Metro 8.5%.

The Department says of the 9,651 active cases in the Eastern Cape, 56,8% are in Nelson Mandela Bay and 38,9% in Sarah Baartman.

In the past 24 hours, 22 deaths were reported and the recovery rate currently stands at 90.6%.

Clusters were identified in 82 schools which contributed about 7,1% to the number of active cases.
