Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and rape
A 35-year-old male suspect will appear at Mthatha Magistrate court today on charges of rape and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspect was arrested by Madeira Police after he allegedly raped a 21-year-old female victim at gunpoint at Slovo Park outside Mthatha on Sunday night.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo, the victim was hitchhiking on her way to Dosi locality around Mthatha when she was given a lift by the suspect on a black/navy vehicle. The suspect drove the vehicle to his place (Slovo Park) where he forced the victim to a bedroom and raped her.
:The suspect then took the victim back to town and dropped her without taking her to where she wanted to go. The victim went to Madeira police station and opened a case of rape also reporting that a firearm was used to threaten her.
“Police followed the information and the 35-year-old suspect was arrested and was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition, “said Mtyolo.
